This game is a Unity project I worked on from its initial prototype, helping move the Dumb Ways visuals into a polished 3D style. I was the lead Visual Effects (VFX) Artist on the project and had to oversee a small team of other VFX Artists. Some of my work visible in the trailer includes character effects (Numpty’s Firey Hair and Doofus’ Wasps), Cloud Puffs, Smoke, Blood, Lasers and Confetti.

We wanted the new style to be in line with the Dumb Ways Brand, so we pushed for more classically cartoony hand-drawn 2D VFX that is interwoven with 3D meshes, to add the extra fidelity of lighting and shadows to our particles. The goal were to prioritise the clear shape language and colour contrast of 2D, with the lighting and environmental interaction of lit 3D meshes.

I also was responsible with debugging the graphics and shader problems across our different builds (PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch).

Aside from VFX, I helped cross-discipline in a TA position with tooling, source control, file/folder structure and in-engine support.
